Healing Trauma

1When Thomas* heard this, everything changed…

“You’re no longer the man I fell in love with.”

That’s what his wife of 11 years told him one Saturday afternoon.

Thomas’ behavior had been getting more “extreme”—to the point that his wife and children were sometimes scared to be around him.

Thomas was a great father and spouse, but…

He had a long, hard road before starting his own family.

He was abused by his biological parents and was eventually adopted by his grandmother. Then, she died in a tragic car accident.

Thomas’ biological parents were awarded custody, but it wasn’t long before Child Protective Services removed him from the home. He bounced around from foster home to foster home, suffering physical and sexual abuse in the process.

He was increasingly angry as a kid… and eventually aged out of the system.

He managed to find work, find love, and find his way… but it wasn’t easy. Thomas had to “dissociate himself” from his past to make a “normal life” in the present.

But the past never really left him. He has severe anxiety and depression. Sometimes, it was front and center; other times, it faded into the background.

Lately, it’s been getting worse, and he’s been feeling more on edge and out of control.

Then, he heard his wife’s words…

And he knew it was time to get help.

In therapy, Thomas was able to resurface and process the childhood abuse and trauma he had been trying to suppress over the years.

In a compassionate, caring environment, he was able to heal from those wounds and develop strategies for coping with a difficult past.

Therapy helped him turn it around, and he and his family have never been stronger and happier.

If you’re suffering from a painful past, it’s time to get the help you need and deserve.
